On 20-22 April, a joint risk management and AEO expert dialogue took place in Tokyo between the EU and Japan as part of their Joint Customs Cooperation Committee. This event was organized by DG TAXUD (Clemen Oven and Annegreth Rohloff) involving a delegation of customs officials (AEO & Risk Management experts) from Germany, The Netherlands, France, Italy, UK, Spain and Belgium. Gerwin Zomer was invited by DG TAXUD to join part of the programme and present the CORE Innovation Agenda to Japanese Customs as well as the EU delegation. The Dutch customs experts are also directly involved in CORE. The public-private partnership approach in CORE and the Trusted Tradelane Supervision concept was received as a complementary approach to the Customs2Customs approach. We monitor whether or when the dialogue offers opportunities for CORE. This is a nice example of the close link of CORE with the DG TAXUD policy agenda on Customs Risk Management and AEO.
