Core 2nd Newsletter – August 2015

We now have 15 months of CORE behind us. Probably ‘behind us’ is not the best expression, since the work that has been done during those months has an effect on the rest of the project.

On Wednesday 1 July 2015 the Technical Committee of CORE met at the TNO head office in The Hague. The technical committee consists of all Work Package Leaders of CORE.

After half a year’s work and producing the first set of deliverables, it was time to share the status of the IT cluster and to achieve a common view on results of the IT cluster.

From 13-16 April, the INTERPOL WORLD 2015 conference took place in Singapore. CORE was invited to present its vision during the plenary programme. We took this opportunity to also organize a number of parallel dissemination activities.

On 20-22 April, a joint risk management and AEO expert dialogue took place in Tokyo between the EU and Japan as part of their Joint Customs Cooperation Committee. This event was organized by DG TAXUD (Clemen Oven and Annegreth Rohloff) involving a delegation of customs officials (AEO & Risk Management experts) from Germany, The Netherlands, France, Italy, UK, Spain and Belgium.

Early July, there was this 3 day gathering in Paris regarding the ‘ Physical Internet ‘. To summarise what it is about: send goods the way data are send. Challenging approach, but at least 300 people were there to learn.

Variability and unpredictability of arrival time of cargo during shipments can cause substantial economic losses for manufacturing companies in terms of brand image and unmet customer demand, especially during peak seasons or in correspondence of marketing campaigns. The main objective of the BSH Living Lab is to improve the overall time-to-deliver reliability of cargo shipped from China (through the Port of Yantian) to Spain (through the Port of Barcelona).

David Hesketh, head of Customs research and development at HMRC and CORE, Work Package 10 Leader, is part-way through a four-year project to prove that good supply chain visibility can help British businesses save money, react faster to market conditions and give them the confidence to deliver innovation and quality.

Reliable, accurate, complete data for efficient risk analysis is the key enabler for the security of the supply chain and enables effective risk management by both public sector authorities and private sector companies. The Felixstowe centric Work Package 10 has explored, developed and demonstrated five commercial seamless, web based, data pipelines that link buyers and sellers with accurate commercial data providing supply chain visibility.

FloraHolland is worldwide known as the largest flower auction in the world. In the demonstrators, our aim is to improve the supply chain reliability and efficiency. As a first step, we aim to improve reliability by visibility in the status of consignments (‘Have all administrative conditions been met’? ‘Are there changes in ETA’?)
